Our Work in Swansea - Local Charities
We are really passionate about giving grants to support local charities and local branches of national charities whose work is with
children and young people
families
elderly
community cohesion
mental health and wellbeing
disability
asylum seekers and refugees
the homeless
unemployed
prisoners and those on probation
and those in poverty
If you are applying for a grant and you are not based in our area of giving, we will only consider your application if you demonstrate a strong local involvement detailing, for example, the number of people you are currently assisting in our area.
We meet three times per year to award grants to local charities, CIC, CIO and community groups with grants typically being between £500 and £2000. If you are an un-constituted group we will need you to be working with Swansea Council of Voluntary Services or Neath Port Talbot Council of Voluntary Services prior to your application.
We are really happy to support small organisations who lack the resources for major fundraising campaigns. Our donation policy tends to favour such organisations.
Because grants are small, we prefer to support specific work/need of an organisation rather than contribute towards salary costs.
The Trustees have a strong preference to give grants where work is self-sustaining or includes an element of self-help. Organisations that ask their beneficiaries to contribute, involve and educate others will stand a better chance of obtaining a grant.
Organisations re-applying less than 12 months after a grant has been awarded are unlikely to be successful. This simply reflects the fact that we have far more applications than we can satisfy. At the same time, we like to build links with organisations over a period of time to help with ongoing projects and new development opportunities.
Approximately nine months after receiving a grant, we ask organisations to complete an electronic evaluation form to identify if and how the funding has taken forward the work of the organisation. This also allows the Trustees to find out how many beneficiaries have been helped and by this means gauge the “value for money” that the grant has provided. It is also likely that the Trustees will call to check the progress of the grant and arrange a visit to see the project in action where practical.
